Lesson A
A Fair Bounce?

If a game should be fair for the players, should the trade behind the ball be fair for the people who make it? Three pupils receive the same instruction and time but not the same chance: one has an inflated football, one an under- inflated football and one a rugby ball. The class uses that concrete distinction between equal and fair to examine the conditions, power and evidence behind trade.

Before The Whistle

Can a game be truly fair if the ball was not traded fairly? Pupils experience a deliberately unfair ball challenge, identify why it felt wrong and explore the difference between the exact wording and the spirit of a rule. They apply the same ideas to the makers, traders and players connected by a sports ball.

Owning an object is not the same as owning the shared activity, relationships and value that many people create around it. Ownership treats others as resources. Sharing treats others as participants.

What would fair play look like for the people who make our sports equipment? Pupils trace the people and stages behind a sports ball, map connections between the UK and a country of manufacture, and use a deliberately fictional token model to examine who has influence over terms and decisions.
Lesson E
Winning Without Hurting
PE/HWB · Relationships · Literacy
Can a game be competitive and fair at the same time? Pupils explore whether trying to win is compatible with care for other people. They test opinions, play a modified team activity in which fair-play actions count, and identify the behaviours that make competition safer, more honest and more enjoyable.
